About Abbey Gymnastics

Abbey Gymnastics was founded in January 2000 by Alison McMullan. In the beginning gymnasts trained at a recreational level and classes were 1 hour per week in the Valley Leisure Centre in Newtownabbey. As the Club developed and gymnasts began to compete, we expanded and opened in Ulidia Integrated College in Carrickfergus. As demand for the Club had grown and the Leisure Centre and School were unable to facilitate this, we had to look for suitable premises in order to operate a full time facility.  Abbey Gymnastics Centre opened in Highgate Business Park, Mallusk in January 2007 and continued to grow.  Unfortunately, due to an unresolved planning issue, the Centre had to close in June 2010 and we continued to look for an alternative facility to cater for the 500+ members who used our Centre on a weekly basis.  We have now found a new site in Argyle Business Centre in Belfast.  This new site will allow us to expand and cater for the high demand for gymnastics classes in Belfast and surrounding areas.  Our new facility will open on 11th October 2010. 

Abbey Gymnastics is now a Community Interest Company limited by guarantee, which enables us to retain a not-for-profit status. The Organisation is under the control of it's Board of Directors who will guide the delivery and development of it's activities.

To provide a professional gymnastics programme with a child centred approach in a safe, fun and disciplined environment, for children and young people of all ages and abilities.. Our professionally qualified coaches endeavour to instil discipline and team work and increase each child's self-confidence and self-esteem by encouraging them to reach their full potential within the sport.
